Deepening Economic Ties Between India And Slovenia

With eased visa norms in place, Slovenia is making attempts to attract Indian investors towards their market. Country has extended invitation to several Indian firms to invest and become a part of their industrial ecosystem.

In an event held in Chandigarh, Jozef Drofenik, Ambassador of Slovenia to India said, "Slovenia is a perfect investment platform for Indian companies due to its excellent infrastructure, a well-educated workforce, and a strategic location between the Balkans and Western Europe". "Slovenia has a number of small and medium-sized companies, having advanced technology and skilled workforce,”

Strategically located between Balkans and Western Europe, the country’s infrastructure and skilled workforce make it a lucrative investment destination. Slovenia can offer access to a consumer network in the East and Southeast Europe.

As per Dinesh Dua, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council “The commercial and economic ties between India and Slovenia, mainly investment relationship, has grown in the last few years. Recently, Slovenia signed a pact with the Indian Air Force for 100 advanced planes. Foreign Direct Investment from Slovenia to India from 2000 to 2015 was at $8.49 million, making it the 79th largest investor in India. Majority of the funds that were directed from Slovenia towards India include manufacturing, computer software and hardware, pharmaceutical products, electrical machinery, green technology and organic chemicals. While bilateral trade between the two nations currently stands at $351 million, Slovenia is looking to increase this figure by enhancing business relationship in the energy, automotive, electronics and tourism sectors. Additionally, Slovenia is partnering with Haryana to work in the areas of water management, water treatment, energy and Information Technology.
