Yes, a separate registration is required to qualify as an Export Oriented Unit (EOU) in India.

Yes Jonathan. Every entity in India that wishes to get involved in import and/or export needs to have an Import Export Code (IEC) number by registering itself by the competent authority (in this case the Directorate General of Foreign Trade).

For setting up a place of business in India, it is required to register a Company as per provisions of Companies Act. Company to be registered could be registered as a domestic company or as a foreign company. As a Foreign Company, a branch office can be established in India which is to be registered with Reserve Bank of India and Registrar of Companies.
